What Is Flight Number In the Ticket?

The flight number or flight designator in the aviation industry is a code approved by International Air Transport Association (IATA). This code is a combination consisting of a two-character airline designator/code (as per IATA code) and 1 to 4 digits.   3. Odd Number: Flights are flying South and East
  4. Domestic Flight: The number is between 3000 to 5999
  5. Shared Flight: Above 6000
  6. Flight number starting with 8 mean chartered flights.

Example:1  AI186 (Vancouver to Delhi) with Return Flight: AI187  (Delhi Flights to Vancouver)

Example 2: Lufthansa Flight from Mumbai to Toronto has two stopovers. The flight codes will be LH – 757, LH – 6794, and LH – 6570.

  • MH 370 was discarded after the disappearance of the flight of the same name.
  • AA11 was discarded after the 9/11 attack. This was used by American Airlines for Bpston to Los Angeles route.
