Pregnant? Know What Rules Airlines Follow For You

Six months into pregnancy and you are planning a last trip as a kid-free couple. But are the rules on booking a flight during pregnancy as simple as getting permission from your Doctor? You need airline blessings as well! It turns out that there are few airlines which surprisingly lenient while others serious on the side of caution. Sure, there are a few annoying airline policies but when it comes to the safety of an unborn baby no one minds playing by the rules, and so you need to know them all.

It’s very important to know the rules made by the airlines for to-be mothers to know, for the little buns in the oven. The following points below will make it clear if pregnant women can fly!

To make it easy and for you to know all the rules we have broken down the policies, airline by airline, for you, below. The following rules cover restrictions for expectant mothers who are pregnant with one child.

JetBlue

This airline permits expectant mothers to fly up to seven days prior baby’s due date without any question. The passenger should have a medical note from the doctor safe for the baby and the expecting mother to fly if they want to fly after that. All the notes must be dated within 72 hours to departure of flight.

Delta

Whether flying within U.S or internationally. Delta airlines has no restrictions on pregnant travelers. The airline’s website cautions however that ticket change fees applies to expectant mothers. Rest there’s no issue in flying with your baby still in the womb with Delta airlines.

Cathy Pacific

19 weeks of pregnancy and more, Cathy Pacific needs a doctor’s note dated no more than 10 days prior an expectant mother’s first flight. The doctor should note whether it’s a single or multiple pregnancy, the expectant mother’s estimated week of pregnancy, due date, and her fitness to travel. After 36th week of pregnancy, pregnant women are not allowed to fly.

British Airways

28 weeks and more of pregnancy and British Airways needs a medical certificate of the expectant mother, including a letter and her pregnancy record stating her due date and a doctor’s note saying that’s she’s in a condition where she’s safe to fly. Also a pregnant woman is not permitted to board British Airways after 36 weeks of pregnancy.

American Airlines

Whether the expecting mother is flying within the U.S or to Rico, Canada, Puerto. American Airlines will not permit pregnant woman on board if she’s within seven days of her due date.

Flying internationally, this airline doesn’t advise expectant women to fly within 30 days of their due date. If they still want to travel, they’ll need to obtain some notes from their doctor stating they are medically fit to travel and fly, and they must do so before 48 hours of the flight.

Also if a woman wants to travel within her 10 days of due date then she must get authorization from American Airlines’s Special Assistance Team in addition with a letter from her doctor stating it’s safe and that there’s no complications.

Singapore Airlines

28 weeks after the pregnancy, Singapore airlines needs a doctor’s note dated no more than 10 days prior an expectant mother’s first flight. The doctor must state her estimated due date and affirm her medical fitness to fly. However, Singapore Airlines strictly prohibits women from boarding after 36 weeks of pregnancy.
