Latest Guidelines For International Travelers To Visit India

Earlier this year, there was a rise of COVID19 in 5 of the major countries of the world, including China. Due to this, India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare updated the guidelines for travelers coming into India internationally. The rules have been in effect since January 2nd, 2023. Most Recent Guidelines To Visit India For International Travelers

While the news is nothing to panic about, it is necessary to keep the proper precautions in mind to ensure safe travels for everyone.

  • Since 1st January, all international travelers coming to India need to self – declare on the Air Suvidha Portal mandatorily, if they are arriving from high – risk countries.
  • Travelers also need to upload a negative RT – PCR report for COVID19 on the Air Suvidha Portal, within 72 hours of undertaking the journey from any of the high – risk countries.
  • The above rules are mandatory even for passengers traveling through high – risk countries, regardless of their originating country. They need to elf – declare and, upload a negative RT – PCR report within 72 hours of undertaking the journey, on the Air Suvidha Portal.
  • The 6 countries marked for high – risk potential are Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
  • Precautionary measures such as wearing a face mask and practising social distancing are mandatory for passengers in the airport or on the flight.

  • Upon arriving at their destination airport, the staff will be testing 2% of the passengers randomly. But passengers don’t need to wait for their results to arrive. They can be on their way after submitting their samples. If they are symptomatic or test positive for COVID19, they are managed according to the standard protocol updated at the latest date.   • All international travelers have to undergo a mandatory thermal screening upon their arrival. If found symptomatic, they will be isolated by going to a designated medical facility to get treated.
  • Children under the age of 12 years are exempt from random testing upon their arrival. However, if they are found symptomatic upon arrival or during their self – monitoring period, they need to undergo testing and treatment according to the protocols. Updated Guidelines on December 24th, 2022

According to the update of 24 December, 2022, the Indian Health Ministry announced that all international passengers traveling from Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong need to submit their RT – PCR test results mandatorily. Additionally, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also stated that they will quarantine travelers arriving from high-risk countries who test positive for COVID-19 or exhibit any symptoms.
