Delta Airlines On Board Facilities and All You Need to Know About It

Delta Baggage Allowance

Traveling involves bags, you cannot travel somewhere without your baggage so, baggage being an important part of travel needs some attention. By attention we mean, you need to know few things about Delta Airlines policies related to your baggage, policies one must have a look at before choosing Delta Airline.

Well, the policy includes the Carry on baggage, 1 personal item, checked baggage, 1 carry on item, oversize or overweight bags, also sports equipment. One think that you need to take special care of is that whatever luggage you have that should fit into either the overhead bin or under your seat.

Following are some details on Delta Baggage Policy

Carry on Allowance

You can with you carry one carry on bag and one personal item like a briefcase, a laptop bag or a purse, without any cost involved. But there is certain limitation to it’s weight and size that you need to know. Refer the table for the carry on baggage policies.

Checked Baggage

Delta Airlines have certain charges on your extra baggage. They charge you an extra fee on each bag that does not meet the above limitations.

Excess Baggage

If any bag exceeds the ticketed itinerary allocation, such as size, weight, or number of pieces, we may accept them on a standby basis. And these extra bags that do not meet the weight and size restrictions requires special handing with additional charges.

Delayed Baggage

Bag delayed? What to do! Well no worries, you just have to notify one of the airline representative. They’ll provide you with a file reference number which will help you get to your bags. The number will let you claim about your things. If your checked baggage has been delayed for more than 12 hours after notification, you qualify for a refund.

Lost Or Missing Baggage

Not finding your things where you had kept in the bag? No worries, if there are items missing from your bag, please then report to a representative immediately. But the missing item report should be filed within 24 hours for domestic travel and 7 days for the international one.

If you have lost an unchecked item while onboard, in the Delta gate area or within the Delta Sky Club then complete the lost item form within seven days to get to your lost item.

Damage Baggage

If you find your baggage damaged during your flight the you are free to claim at the Delta Air Lines airport baggage office immediately after you have arrived. Else you can complete the baggage claim form in “Begin Your Claim” within 24 hours if you are travelling US and 7 days for international travel.

Sports Equipment

You don’t have to leave behind your sports equipment like fishing net, hockey, golf bags, skis as you now can carry sports equipment on board. They though are counted as one checked bag and associated fee is applied.

Delta In Flight Entertainment

The airlines provides the the travelers with great entertainment by connecting with WiFi or Delta Studio. These Facilities are ready to use on most of the flights. Delta also offers other services so that you can enjoy fresh food, beverages, delightful and complementary ways to keep you entertained.

Delta Studio

To get access to the Delta Studio one need to go to the Entertainment App to stream on the laptop which we would like to tell is only compatible to Windows 10, or you can stream it on iPhone, iPad or Android tablet. The app could easily be find in the app store so one can download it before the flight and can enjoy as soon as you are in the air.

Free Messaging

The airline now offers free mobile messaging feature to all it’s travelers so that one can stay in touch with family and friends onboard. This is available on the flights enabled with WiFi for use with iMessage. So before you fly, download this apps.

A few things to know about Free Messaging on Delta

  • Since data and messaging charges aren’t applied, one can message free of cost.
  • Free messaging is available on all delta flights enabled with WiFi and also for use of apps like iMessage, Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp etc on smart phones.
  • Words and emojis are the only two that are accepted, sending of videos or photos are not supported.
WiFi Connection

This airline is fully advance technology wise, it has all kind of entertainment that will make one’s trip more enjoyable. They provide free WiFi access on board. You’ll find In flight WiFi installed on all the planes.

Food and Drinks

The airline provides one with fresh onboard dining which is full of flavors. Now Delta airlines has come up with a new change which will let you experience a new taste every another season you fly as they have taken the idea of changing the menus according to the season.

Special Meals

On flights with scheduled meal service, Delta Airlines provides a variety of meals, including vegetarian, low sodium, low cholesterol, and diabetic options, to accommodate special dietary needs. But for special menu you need to place a request in advance, at least 48 hours in advance.

Other Services
For Infants
  • Children who are upto 2 years old or 24 months are not required to have their own seat.
  • Inform before to the airline that you’ll be traveling with an infant.
  • Passengers who are at least 12 years of age are permitted to carry one child on their lap.
  • Only one lap child is permitted with one Adult.
  • A ticket has to be purchased for each extra infant if more than one is travelling with one adult.
  • An infant aged 2 years and 7 days, i.e., 24 months, typically incurs a 10% charge of the adult fare, including taxes, even if they will be traveling in the lap.
For Unaccompanied Minors

Children who are traveling without parent or a legal guardian comes under as unaccompanied minors and most of the airlines assist such kids from their point of departure to their final destination. And those who are 5 to 14 years old when travel without parent or any legal guardian.

Children of the age group 5 to 7 can only fly on non stop flights.

8 to 14 years age group can fly on non stop or connecting flights.

The age group of 15 to 17 doesn’t need any assistance though may receive if requested with Delta Airlines.

Red eye flights, departing between 9 pm to 5 am, do not permit unaccompanied minors. So, an unaccompanied kid cannot book last connecting flight to the evening.

Exceptions are:
  • Flights from or to Hawaii or Alaska
  • International Flight
  • Domestic but short haul ones, 2 hours or less, nonstop
For Pets

In the passenger cabin as checked baggage pets can travel on Delta flights. Also they can travel on the cargo in temperature controlled and pressurized area.

  • Choose a small pet that fits easily into a kennel.
  • While in a boarding space or in the lounge or onboard your pet must remain inside the kennel.
  • Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old.
  • Only allow domesticated birds, cats, and dogs.
  • You should carry all the health documents of your pet along.
  • You cannot carry more than one pet per journey, but airlines may permit two pets of the same type in a single kennel.
