Delhi airport is the only Indian airport to get a dedicated transport system similar to a Metro train. Currently, buses transport passengers at the airport between the terminals. But how will the air train make transit faster? Will it be more convenient and what are its features? We have the answers to all the questions. Read on about this newest air train below.
The automated people mover (APM) will connect T1, the low – cost domestic terminal, T2, which is being converted into T4, and T3, the international terminal. This new system will offer convenient and faster passenger transit compared to the current inter – terminal shuttle service.
This project was supposed to begin in 2020, but due to COVID – 19, this was put on the shelf. And at present, a tender has been put out in the market for the construction of the inter – terminal air train. It is also called the automated people mover (APM). Go check it out before it is built when you grab low airfare to India from USA from us.
The upcoming APM (automated people mover) will have a 7.5 km long transit line. This will include 2.5 km on the ground and 3 km underground. Its route serves 4 stops – connecting T1, the cargo terminal, and Aerocity, the airport’s hospitality section along with featuring a common station serving both T3 and the future T4 terminal. A fully technical study on the route and estimated cost of the project is still underway.
In 2018 when Delhi IGI airport had 3 runways and 2 terminals, the airport faced a huge record of 6.9 million passengers. However, with this proposed construction of the 4th runway and expansion of Terminal 1, the expected traffic will be 10 million in 2020. This is supposed to rise to 15 million passengers by 2025 when Terminal 4 will be operational.
Thanks to this new facility at the Delhi IGI airport, the passengers are increasing in numbers every year. This means more for Delhi and India, as the tourist footfall increases, profit increases in proportion as well. So, the next time you plan a holiday, book a cheap flight to India with us.
