Best Travel hacks to Tackle Congestion During your Last Minute Flights

Congestion at Indian airports

You may be aware that due to a high amount of travelers, India’s main airports, notably those in Delhi and Mumbai, are now facing congestion. As a result, large lineups and severe delays for passengers throughout the check-in procedure have occurred.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has taken many initiatives to alleviate airport congestion in India. They have also encouraged airlines to enhance check-in counter manpower in order to improve passenger flow at the airport.

Following complaints of lengthy lineups, congestion, and overcrowding at Delhi International Airport, the Union government was forced to intervene and urge airlines to deploy sufficient personnel at all check-in and luggage drop points to guarantee a smooth flow of passengers. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) also provided smart travel suggestions’ to travelers departing from the crowded Terminal 3.

Terminal 1 (T1), Terminal 2 (T2), and Terminal 3 (T3) are the three terminals of Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3) with last minute flights service. There are three parallel runaways. Terminal 3 is Delhi’s sole airport that handles foreign aircraft. T3 also serves domestic flights for Air India, IndiGo, Air Asia, SpiceJet, GoFirst, and Vistara. With so many planes arriving and leaving, this airport is considered one of the busiest in India in terms of passenger volume.

Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia paid an unexpected visit to the Delhi airport to investigate what was causing the significant delays, and he devised a plan of action to take rapid modifications to deal with the increased traffic. The initiatives described were as follows:

“Capacity plans for peak hours based on passenger processing capacity at each major airport.”

“Landing cards will be issued on board and filled out prior to arrival to reduce lines at immigration counters for travelers coming by booking affordable flight tickets to India.”

“X-ray capacity for luggage will be evaluated.”

DIAL’s “Smart Travel Tips” to Avoid Congestion at Delhi Airport

Terminal 3 is handled by DIAL, or Delhi International Airport Limited, a joint venture founded by GMR Group, the Airport Authority of India, Fraport AG, and Eraman Malaysia. DIAL has taken a number of efforts to assist travelers in getting through the airport without having to wait in huge lines for their last minute flights.

Waiting time at entrance gates

DIAL has been informing customers of expected wait times at all of the International Airport’s entrance gates through its Twitter account. This will allow travelers booking the best flights deals to access the airport faster by entering through the gate with the last line. They continue to provide information every hour. Keep an eye out for it.

Policy on one-hand luggage

Passengers queue in large lines to pass their baggage via the scanner at the security checkpoint. DIAL also reminds domestic & international travelers coming to India via affordable flight tickets to India to bring only one handbag per person so that the baggage may be promptly scanned and you don’t have to wait for it once you’ve through security. Ladies’ purses, laptop bags, baby bags, umbrellas/walking sticks, and jackets are not permitted under this regulation.

Airlines have issued travel warnings for Delhi Airport

  • IndiGo and Air India have issued travel advisories for customers, advising them to arrive at least 3.5 hours before domestic flights.
  • For foreign flights, Air India has also requested that passengers booking the best flight deals arrive four hours before departure.
  • IndiGo advises customers to enter through gates 5 and 6 to get to the IndiGo check-in booths faster.
  • SpiceJet is requesting that travelers arrive early and bring only one piece of hand luggage weighing less than seven pounds. They also advise travelers to complete their web check-in before arriving at the airport.

Peak travel hours at Delhi Airport:

T3 is busiest from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a large number of planes landing and taking off during these times. Action plans have been developed to redirect peak-hour flights to T1 and T2 or to non-peak hours at T3. If your flight is scheduled between these hours, please be sure to double-check your flight information the day before in case the timing or terminal has changed. Travel strategies to avoid traffic at Delhi Airport

  1. Arrive at least 3.5 hours before your departure time

Allow enough time at the airport to check in, clear security, and get to the boarding gate. With long queues at every airport checkpoint, arriving early will ensure you through all airport requirements in time to catch your last minute flights.

  1. Sign up for the Digi-Yatra app

The airport’s entry gates feature exceptionally lengthy lineups, which delay travelers and prohibit them from accessing the airport even if they arrive on time. Rather than standing in line to have your boarding pass and identity card examined, download the Digi-Yatra app and scan your face at the e-gates to get entrance.

  1. Check-in online before arriving at the airport

If you don’t have any luggage to check in, simply finish your check-in online and you’ll be able to avoid this wait totally! You can bypass the security gates if you complete the web check-in. Even if you have luggage, you may swiftly pass through this stage by standing in the baggage drop line.

  1. Carry no more than one cabin bag

Even after entering the airport and checking in, security has huge lines. Carrying only one cabin bag allows you to pass through swiftly since you will not have to wait for your bag to clear the scanners.

  1. Avoid traveling at peak hours

If there are fewer flights when you arrive at the airport, it will be less congested than during peak hours. You may zip through check-in and security and board your aircraft without fear of missing it.
