Air India, India’s largest airline and a Star Alliance member, unveiled on Saturday its “FogCare” effort to reduce the impact of fog interruptions for customers booking flight tickets to India.
This project, which will first be deployed for aircraft departing and arriving at IGI airport in New Delhi, intends to address unanticipated events such as flight delays and cancellations caused by a dense fog that engulfs northern India throughout the winter season.
Under the new FogCare effort, Air India will take proactive initiatives to isolate the impact of fog on flight operations, which typically occurs in the early mornings and late evenings but frequently cascades throughout the day.
During instances of fog, Air India will reach out to customers and provide them with simple choices to reschedule or cancel their impacted flights at no additional cost. Passengers on impacted flights might choose not to travel to the airport and avoid the annoyance of long lines. This will also help to reduce airport congestion.
Passengers on disrupted long-haul & last minute flights will get customer-friendly e-mails, phone calls, and SMS with flight-specific warnings, providing them with simple alternatives to reduce the inconvenience caused by fog-related interruptions.
“We are thrilled to announce the FogCare project, a customer-centric approach to assure the greatest possible experience for our passengers,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer and Global Head of Airport Operations at Air India. This is another step toward being a world-class airline, and it will considerably improve the customer experience on foggy days. We will make every effort to provide our clients with up-to-date information on whether their flight has been disrupted by fog and to assist them in making the best decision given the circumstances.
By proactively addressing the issue, we will be able to maintain the overall network schedule integrity as best as possible, and provide a better experience to all passengers, particularly those on flights not affected by fog in Delhi, who would otherwise have been subjected to the cascading effects of rolling fog delays.”
The airline is also guaranteeing the appropriate availability of aircraft, pilots, maintenance, and cabin personnel to deal with fog-related emergencies. With a fully trained cockpit crew and the capacity to operate in poor visibility situations using the CAT-III Instrument Landing System (ILS), Air India is prepared to minimize interruption due to fog.
