Fun fact: The Haveli was set to crumble through years of neglect but was restored to its former glory and was set to become a museum. Sounds regular but it is not. Van Mahotsav is a festival celebrated in India during the first week of July. This also corresponds to Arbor Day in other countries. While it is celebrated all over India, it is celebrated most in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat and a few other states, where Uttar Pradesh bagged the win by planting the most saplings in the year 2022 (55 lakh trees!) during the week of Van Mahotsav.

The government of India gives saplings to private and public sector schools, colleges, offices, industries, NGOs and any organisations. To visit, book flight tickets to Ahmedabad from USA and enjoy the festival for free.

Jagannath Rath Yatra

Jagannath Rath Yatra

This is the oldest and largest chariot procession in the world, celebrated every year with great splendor at the Jagannath Temple. In the months of June or July, people commemorate the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha for 12 continuous days.

Fun fact: Hindu mythology dictates that deities should not be moved or removed once they are stationed at their altar. This is the only festival where the god Jagannath (god of the universe) comes out of his temple for his devotees.

They bring out him with two other deities (Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra) in a colorful Rath Yatra where the chariots are huge! Think 45 feet. A huge number of devotees pull the chariots as it makes its way through town. Touching or pulling the rope of god Jagannath’s chariot is a popular belief, they will cleanse all sins in every birth of their soul.
